Photos: Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull Volcano

Posted by Marisa | Posted in Photos | No Comments » | Posted on April 22nd, 2010

As ash from Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano continued to keep European airspace shut down over the weekend, affecting millions of travelers around the world, some government agencies and airlines clashed over the flight bans. Some restricted airspace is now beginning to open up and some limited flights are being allowed now as airlines are pushing for the ability to judge safety conditions for themselves. The volcano continues to rumble and hurl ash skyward, if at a slightly diminished rate now, as the dispersing ash plume has dropped closer to the ground, and the World Health Organization has issued a health warning to Europeans with respiratory conditions. Collected here are some images from Iceland over the past few days.

Happy Friday – 5 Celebrities Bare It All for Allure

The clothes came off; the courage came out. Learn what these stars, including Emmanuelle Chriqui, Colbie Caillat, and Kara DioGuardi, had to say about their bodies, their workouts, and what it felt like to drop the robe. For more of our revealing interviews with them, pick up the May issue of Allure, on newsstands April 20.

“Some women want bigger breasts,” says the Entourage actress. “But [I wish] I could have had a dancer’s body. I sometimes wear plunging necklines because they make me feel smaller.” At the shoot, she was on day four of a ten-day organic-food “cleanse.” The point wasn’t to drop pounds. “It’s not about losing weight. I didn’t want to feel freaked out about today, so I consciously kept focusing on excitement.”

“This shoot was less about beauty than about taking a risk and showing people a side of me they never have seen,” says the American Idol judge. She was proud to have the confidence to strip down for the camera after struggling with binge eating and depression in her early 20s. “Back then I was a size 6 or 8; now I’m more like a size 2. Food is not what I use to anesthetize myself anymore.” She didn’t diet or work out like a maniac in preparation, but she did make one change: cutting way back on salt. “I can really retain water,” she says.

W-Magazine: Demi Moore REVISITED

Everyone knows by now that magazines extensively airbrush the stars on their covers, and usually the celebs appreciate a little touchup and wouldn’t want it any other way. But imagine Demi Moore, 47, getting her first look at the latest (December) cover of W and finding that a huge chunk of her hip has been digitally removed? That’s what the folks at Boing Boing called attention to yesterday. The mistake hardly needs to be pointed out. If you look at Moore’s left hip (our right), it seems that what used to be flesh is now a great deal of white space. But, don’t worry, Mrs. Kutcher’s thigh still seems normal, though now it appears to bulge out below her sarong.

Magazine covers go through an exhaustive process of approvals, so it’s puzzling that this one made it to press with a mistake so obvious it’s visible a few yards from the newsstand.

Check out the close-up view.

For their September issue, Glamour put a refreshing spin on beauty, showcasing an underwear-clad 20-year-old plus-size model, who has the magazine’s readers applauding. After receiving many thank-you letters through the mag, the model Lizzi Miller talked to Glamour.com about what it’s like to be garnering so much positive attention. “When I was young I really struggled with my body and how it looked because I didn’t understand why my friends were so effortlessly skinny,” she tells the magazine’s editor-in-chief Cindi Leive. “As I got older I realized that everyone’s body is different and not everyone is skinny naturally–me included! I learned to love my body for how it is, every curve of it. I used to be so self-conscious in a bikini because my stomach wasn’t perfectly defined. But everyone has different body shapes! And it’s not all about the physical! If you walk on the beach in your bikini with confidence and you feel sexy, people will see you that way too.”
